Ballarat trainer Dan O’Sullivan believes it couldn’t have been a better time for his four-year-old mare One Last Kiss to have won her first city race with a plethora of staying options for her in the weeks to come.
One Last Kiss outstayed her rivals to win the 2520m Benchmark 78 at Flemington comfortably and O’Sullivan mentioned several options for her after the win.
“Whether we go to the Torney Cup at The Valley or the Pakenham Cup; or she could even head to the Adelaide Cup, as her owners are from there, and that could be the end goal,” O’Sullivan said.
“She’s got a city win up and now the step is to chase black type. If she didn’t win today, she was going to Adelaide next Saturday and now she doesn’t have to.”
The win continued the long and fruitful association O’Sullivan has her with One Last Kiss’s breeder and owner David Peacock
O’Sullivan’s recent banner horse Berkeley Square is also raced by Peacock.
O’Sullivan said he was pleased to get the daughter of Toronado to Flemington for the first time in her career as that track suited good stayers.
O’Sullivan’s first reaction to the win was to point out that barriers matter as Luke Currie was able to give her an energy saving run which contrasted with her two previous starts when she started from wide barriers.
