Tuscan Fire's win yesterday at Ballarat may have bought him a ticket to Adelaide for the SA Derby on May 2nd. The three year old gelding has been running quite well and not having a lot of luck since racing over more ground so he certainly deserved to crack his maiden. Dan has always had the Derby in mind for Tuscan Fire as well as stable mate Beer Garden, so if he pulls up well he will accept with the hope of earning a run. Tuscan Fire is out of Jetfire Lass, who Dan also trained for the same connections until her career was cut short through injury – "Jetfire Lass always showed me above average ability so I was thrilled when I got the call to train this fellow. I expect he'll be a better horse next preparation, but we've come this far with him and if he gets a run in the Derby I can't see any reason not to give him the chance".
