Promising mare Kaeduna won her second race from three starts this preparation taking out the Sportsbet Country Showcase Class 1 over 1400m yesterday. An electrical storm hit Ballarat earlier in the day and as well as delaying the races for the rest of the program, the track was quickly downgraded to a heavy 8. With Kaeduna being by Johannesburg, and with his breed generally liking the wet, Dan's confidence was mixed "I knew she was going into this race ready for the 1400m, and I was fairly confident she'd go well on the heavy track but my only concern was being her first time at the trip combined with the wet it might be a bit much for her. Mark's daring ride in front paid off, and she did a terrific job to fight out the finish." Jockey Mark Pegus and Dan have had a good association over the years and Mark will make a trip to Ballarat to ride work when he can, so it was great for his loyalty to be rewarded too. Dan hopes to have Kaeduna racing in town eventually so his plan is to step her up as her preparation progresses.
